Greenpeace Alleges Russian Sabotage of Power Supply Lines at Zaporizhzhia Plant

Here is a six-paragraph news summary based on the content:

Greenpeace has accused Russia of deliberately sabotaging the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in occupied southeastern Ukraine and then blaming Kyiv, in an effort to distract from the dangers of its illegal occupation and war. In a report released Thursday, the environmental group warned that Moscow is carrying out a “disinformation campaign” while undermining the plant’s electricity supply.

The report was based on satellite imagery analyzed by Greenpeace Ukraine and London-based McKenzie Intelligence Services. The analysts found no evidence to support Russian claims that Ukrainian attacks damaged the plant. “The satellite imagery and evidence is clear – Ukraine did not attack its own Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant electricity system,” said Shaun Burnie, a nuclear specialist at Greenpeace Ukraine.

Burnie said the repeated loss of external power at the plant was the result of Russian military strikes on Ukraine’s electricity grid and sabotage operations at the plant and associated switchyards. He described Moscow’s allegations as part of a “massive disinformation campaign” designed to confuse and distract from real safety threats.

The analysis focused on the 330 kV Ferosplavna-1 power line, the plant’s only remaining external line according to the International Atomic Energy Agency. Images taken between October 2025 and June 2026 were examined to test Moscow’s allegations of Ukrainian artillery fire on February 10 and a drone strike on June 4.

McKenzie Intelligence Services concluded that the damage was inconsistent with artillery fire, which would normally leave a pattern of impact craters and dispersed damage across the area. It also found that damage blamed on the June 4 drone strike was already visible before the alleged attack occurred.

The IAEA has stressed the importance of a stable electricity supply for nuclear safety, including essential reactor cooling systems. Greenpeace echoed that warning, saying the real threat comes from Russia’s continued occupation and military aggression.
