Türkiye Rejects Disinformation Campaign Alleging Targeting of Druze in Syria

Istanbul – Türkiye’s Center for Combating Disinformation vehemently refuted accusations circulating in various media outlets that the country is targeting the Druze community in Syria. The center categorically denounced these claims as part of a calculated disinformation campaign designed to misrepresent Türkiye’s foreign policy, which is firmly grounded in humanitarian principles and respect for human rights.

The center emphasized that Türkiye’s foreign policy is anchored in the principles of international law, with a primary focus on fostering regional peace and stability. It reiterated Türkiye’s unwavering support for Syria’s political unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The center underscored that Türkiye’s approach does not permit discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, or sect. The paramount concern, it stated, is the protection of human dignity and fundamental rights for all.

The center cited President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s affirmations that Türkiye’s policy on Syria is not predicated on ethnic or sectarian considerations. This principle, the center explained, guides all of Türkiye’s humanitarian aid efforts and diplomatic initiatives in Syria. Since the onset of the Syrian crisis, Türkiye has welcomed displaced Syrians without discrimination, implementing comprehensive humanitarian aid and social support programs encompassing all affected groups.

Furthermore, the center emphasized that no Syrian community has been excluded from assistance, and that everyone, irrespective of their sectarian or ethnic background, has received equal treatment. The center pointed out that those propagating these baseless allegations against Türkiye are clearly seeking to instigate discord among religious groups within the region’s delicate demographic landscape.

The center characterized this disinformation campaign as a geopolitical ploy motivated by self-interest. It reiterated Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to regional peace, stability, and social cohesion. The center highlighted Türkiye’s resolute stance against divisive activities and sectarian conflict scenarios that jeopardize Syria’s political unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, emphasizing that such destabilizing initiatives are never tolerated.

The Center for Combating Disinformation affirmed its commitment to ensuring accurate information reaches both domestic and international audiences. It urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from placing trust in unverified, distorted, or tendentious content. The center’s statement serves as a strong rebuttal against the misleading narrative being disseminated and reaffirms Türkiye’s commitment to a humanitarian approach in its dealings with the Syrian crisis. The center’s call for vigilance against disinformation highlights the importance of relying on credible sources and fact-based reporting amidst complex geopolitical situations.
