Bangladesh Seeks NRBs’ Support to Counter Misinformation and Drive National Transformation

DHAKA – The Bangladesh government is calling upon Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to play a crucial role in combating misinformation about the country and contribute to its economic development. Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain emphasized the need for NRBs to share the true narrative of Bangladesh’s resilience and potential on a global platform. Speaking at the NRB Conclave 2024 held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, Hossain highlighted the interim government’s commitment to supporting NRB engagement and establishing mechanisms for structured collaboration.

The conclave, themed "Transforming Bangladesh through Knowledge Remittance," brought together NRBs and local stakeholders to explore avenues for national transformation. Hossain emphasized the importance of countering the ongoing misinformation campaign against Bangladesh, urging NRBs to leverage their global connections and influence to reshape perceptions and advocate for the nation’s positive trajectory. He stressed the need to project Bangladesh as an investment destination and innovation hub, showcasing its potential to overcome challenges and capitalize on opportunities.

The government recognizes the significant contributions that NRBs can make through their expertise, experience, and networks. Hossain outlined various initiatives aimed at facilitating NRB engagement, including establishing institutional mechanisms for structured collaboration and creating platforms for dialogue with local stakeholders. This collaborative approach seeks to harness the collective knowledge and resources of NRBs to drive national development. The invitation to NRBs represents not just a call to contribute but also an opportunity for them to gain recognition, influence, and financial returns while participating in building a prosperous and respected Bangladesh.

The NRB Conclave 2024 served as a platform to discuss strategies for leveraging the potential of NRBs. The interim government’s commitment to supporting NRB engagement underscores the importance of their role in shaping the country’s future. The conclave’s focus on "knowledge remittance" reflects the recognition that the expertise and experience of NRBs are valuable assets that can contribute significantly to national transformation. By fostering a collaborative environment, the government aims to empower NRBs to become catalysts for positive change and growth in Bangladesh.

The appeal to NRBs comes at a time when Bangladesh faces both challenges and immense opportunities. The interim government believes that the combined efforts of both resident and non-resident Bangladeshis are essential to navigate these complex dynamics. By working together, the nation can strive towards its vision of a prosperous, inclusive, and respected future. The conclave seeks to establish a structured framework for ongoing NRB engagement, fostering a sustained partnership for national development.

The NRB Conclave 2024, presented by Prime Bank PLC and powered by bKash Limited and Team Group BD, was organized by the Bangladesh Brand Forum. The event aimed to create a space for meaningful dialogue and collaboration between NRBs and local stakeholders. By providing a platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices, the conclave facilitated the development of strategies for effective NRB engagement in national transformation. This collaborative approach sets the stage for a long-term partnership between the government and NRBs, working together to build a brighter future for Bangladesh.
