Srinagar, July 4: As the annual Amarnath Yatra continues to draw thousands of devotees to the Kashmir Valley, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Zuhaib Yousuf Mir has issued a formal appeal to pilgrims, urging them to exercise responsibility regarding the content they share on social media. Mir’s statement comes in response to a growing trend of viral videos circulating online that allegedly depict instances of mistreatment by law enforcement and poor cooperation from the civil administration. The PDP leader cautioned that such narratives, if baseless, could unnecessarily tarnish the image of the region and create avoidable friction between the visiting pilgrims and the local authorities dedicated to their safety.
In his address, Mir expressed deep disappointment regarding the nature of some of the content currently circulating, characterizing many of these depictions as “false and exaggerated.” While he acknowledged that any pilgrim with a legitimate complaint should have access to proper channels for resolution, he argued that the viral nature of these specific videos suggests an agenda that transcends mere feedback. According to Mir, these clips appear to be driven by propaganda rather than an objective documentation of the Yatra’s management, potentially misleading the public about the massive logistical undertaking required to facilitate the religious journey.
Providing firsthand verification of the current ground situation, the PDP leader noted that he had personally visited multiple transit points, including the critical location of Panthachowk. After witnessing the operations in real-time, Mir offered his commendation to the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the civil administration. He emphasized that these officials have been performing their duties with commendable professionalism, patience, and unwavering dedication, often operating under the pressure of limited resources while navigating a complex security and logistical landscape.
Mir highlighted the sheer scale of the operation, noting that managing the massive, continuous influx of pilgrims is an immense challenge that tests the limits of the Valley’s infrastructure. Despite these hurdles, he maintained that the local administration has remained resilient, working tirelessly to ensure the smooth flow of the Yatra. By praising the efforts of those on the ground, the PDP leader sought to counter the negative sentiments generated by the contentious videos, urging observers to look at the broader, more complex picture of the logistical success achieved under difficult circumstances.
Addressing the long-term sustainability of the pilgrimage, Mir suggested the implementation of more rigorous regulation regarding the number of pilgrims permitted to travel at any given time. He argued that the current volume of participants places an unsustainable strain on the local environment and the limited resources available in the high-altitude terrain. By advocating for a structured approach to the Yatra, Mir signaled that an organized process is essential not only for the comfort of the pilgrims but also for the ecological preservation of the sensitive Himalayan region through which the route passes.
In his concluding remarks, the PDP leader reiterated a warm welcome to all devotees, expressing his hopes for a safe and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage. He called upon the public and the pilgrims themselves to safeguard the sanctity of the Yatra by refraining from fueling misinformation. By urging a focus on the shared spirit of the journey rather than the propagation of divisive digital narratives, Mir aimed to foster an atmosphere of harmony and cooperation for the remainder of the Yatra season.
