The Philippine National Police (PNP) has officially announced a heightened state of security and a rigorous crackdown on digital misinformation as the nation braces for the upcoming impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. Scheduled to commence on Monday, July 6, the trial will see the Senate transformed into an impeachment court to hear the case against the country’s second-highest official. In anticipation of the event, PNP Chief Nartatez emphasized that the police force is taking an aggressive stance against those who seek to exploit the political climate through the spread of incendiary falsehoods and malicious narratives.

To maintain order and safeguard the democratic process, the PNP has initiated a massive logistical operation, deploying approximately 6,000 police personnel to secure the Senate complex and other strategic areas across the capital. This significant deployment is designed not only to protect the integrity of the judicial proceedings but also to effectively manage the large-scale public demonstrations expected to erupt as the trial progresses. Nartatez stated that the presence of these officers is essential to ensure that the rule of law is upheld without interference from civil unrest.

Beyond physical security, the PNP is turning its focus toward the digital landscape, where officials fear that disinformation campaigns are being weaponized to incite violence or destabilize government institutions. Nartatez confirmed that the PNP has implemented a 24/7 cyber patrolling initiative aimed at identifying and neutralizing online threats. Intelligence monitoring has been intensified, with a specific focus on tracking calls for physical violence, targeted attacks against state institutions, and direct threats against the public officials serving as jurors and participants in the impeachment process.

The directive from the national headquarters has filtered down to local levels, with police commanders across the country ordered to take immediate action against viral misinformation. Officials have been instructed to promptly validate any circulating claims that could trigger public panic or provoke disorder within their respective jurisdictions. By catching false narratives early, the PNP aims to curb the rapid spread of inflammatory content that could escalate into real-world violence during the sensitive weeks of the impeachment trial.

In a plea for civic responsibility, Nartatez urged the Filipino public to exercise extreme caution when consuming and sharing information online. He emphasized that the average citizen plays a crucial role in preventing civil instability by verifying details through official government channels before disseminating them on social media platforms. The PNP warned that failing to do so could inadvertently turn everyday individuals into pawns for organized bad actors, whose primary goal is to undermine democratic stability and create chaos during the high-stakes political proceedings.

Concluding his remarks, the PNP Chief reiterated the police force’s commitment to institutional integrity and impartiality. He stressed that while the political repercussions of the impeachment trial may be significant, the PNP remains strictly politically neutral. Nartatez affirmed that the primary mandate of the police force during this period is to focus exclusively on the maintenance of peace and order, the protection of established democratic institutions, and the assurance of public safety for all citizens, regardless of their political leanings.
