Kenyan Commander Rejects Disinformation Campaign Amidst Intensified Operations Against Haitian Gangs

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – In a strongly worded statement, Kenyan Commander Godfrey Otunge, leader of the Multinational Mission for Security Support (MMSS) in Haiti, has vehemently denied a wave of "erroneous and malicious" propaganda circulating online. The disinformation campaign, according to Commander Otunge, is a desperate attempt by criminal gangs to undermine the MMSS’s escalating operations, which pose a significant threat to their control.

The false narratives, spread across various online platforms, allege significant losses among MMSS troops during recent clashes in Kenskoff. Commander Otunge categorically refuted these claims, asserting that the mission has not suffered any casualties. He emphasized the success of the joint MMSS and Haitian National Police (PNH) operation in Kenskoff, securing a strategic relay station in the area.

Furthermore, the disinformation campaign has sought to sow discord between the MMSS and the PNH, falsely claiming incidents of friendly fire. Commander Otunge dismissed these allegations as entirely baseless, highlighting the extensive joint training and coordinated operations between the two forces. He underscored the robust and collaborative relationship between himself and PNH Director General Normil Rameau, emphasizing their shared commitment to restoring security and stability in Haiti.

The disinformation campaign, according to Commander Otunge, reflects the growing desperation of the criminal gangs as the MMSS intensifies its efforts to dismantle their networks. He reiterated the mission’s unwavering resolve to restore peace and security in Haiti, urging the public to remain vigilant against such manipulative tactics and to rely on credible sources of information. He emphasized the importance of public trust and cooperation in supporting the ongoing security operations.

The MMSS’s robust response to the disinformation campaign underscores the critical role of accurate and timely information in complex security environments. The spread of false narratives can undermine public trust, disrupt operations, and embolden criminal elements. The mission’s commitment to transparency and accountability serves as a crucial countermeasure to these disruptive tactics.

The escalating security operations and the concerted efforts to counter disinformation represent a pivotal moment in Haiti’s fight against organized crime. The MMSS, in close collaboration with the PNH, is determined to restore order and create a secure environment for the Haitian people. The success of these efforts will depend not only on the effectiveness of security operations but also on the ability to counter disinformation and maintain public trust. The fight against misinformation is as crucial as the fight on the ground, and Commander Otunge’s decisive response reinforces the MMSS’s dedication to both fronts of this complex battle. The future of Haiti depends on the ability of the MMSS and the PNH to overcome these challenges and restore peace and stability to the nation. This requires a continued focus on effective operations, transparent communication, and a unified front against those seeking to sow discord and maintain a climate of fear and instability.
