VidCon Announces Strategic Partnership with Lighthouse Edutainment to Tackle Digital Mental Health

VidCon, the premier annual gathering for the global creator economy, has officially announced a high-profile programming partnership with Lighthouse Edutainment ahead of its upcoming Anaheim event. Scheduled to take place from June 25–27 at the Anaheim Convention Center, the collaboration aims to pivot the convention’s focus toward the profound impact of social media on the psychological well-being of Gen Z and Gen Alpha. By integrating curated panels and interactive activations across VidCon’s three primary programming tracks—Industry, Fan, and Creator—both organizations intend to address the complexities of the digital age in a solution-oriented manner.

Lighthouse Edutainment, a multimedia powerhouse founded by Antony Gordon and anchored by the backing of Ron Burkle’s The Yucaipa Companies, has built a reputation for bridging the gap between entertainment and education. Their involvement in VidCon represents a significant shift toward addressing the “dark side” of the creator economy, moving beyond typical influencer metrics to explore difficult societal issues. The content partnership is set to dissect critical themes including dopamine-driven platform design, the mechanics of cyberbullying, the prevalence of creator burnout, and the persistent psychological pressures associated with the pursuit of online validation and identity.

The depth of the collaboration is reflected in the diverse programming scheduled for the Industry track, which is tailored for professionals navigating the evolving digital landscape. Highlighted sessions include a high-level fireside chat between E! Founder Larry Namer and Antony Gordon, alongside a deep-dive panel focused on the neurological effects of social media addiction. The Industry stage will host a robust lineup of experts, including Promly founder Jen Libby, diVine Video co-founder Dr. Liz Sweigart, Gen Z strategist Shelby Edwards, and Organization for Social Media Safety CEO Marc Berkman, all of whom will provide insights into creating a safer, more sustainable digital environment for younger generations.

In a move to make mental health dialogues accessible to the broader audience, the Fan track will pivot toward the high-pressure world of professional athletics. Featuring a panel with UFC veteran Jared Gordon, NBA veteran CJ Miles, and NBA Vice President of Player Engagement Drew Franklin, this segment will explore how professional athletes manage mental health while enduring intense scrutiny and constant exposure on social media. By highlighting the experiences of public figures who exist under a digital microscope, the session aims to offer relatable perspective for fans, families, and young viewers who face similar, albeit private, pressures in their daily online interactions.

The Creator track is equally focused on technical and philosophical evolution, specifically exploring how emerging technologies shape the human experience. Sessions within this track will investigate the symbiotic relationship between social media algorithms and the mental health of creators, as well as the rapidly growing role of AI tools in music and content production. These discussions will feature influential voices such as Grammy-nominated producer Maejor, Rebel Audio CEO Jared Gutstadt, and Suno’s Director of Creator Partnerships Rosie Nguyen. Together, they will offer attendees a glimpse into the future of content generation while maintaining an ongoing focus on the ethical implications of these technical advancements.

As VidCon prepares for another banner year under the management of FAN EXPO—the event organizer that acquired the festival in 2024—leadership from both sides remains optimistic about the impact of this synergy. Antony Gordon emphasized that the partnership is an opportunity to cultivate a “culturally relevant and solution-oriented” dialogue with creators and educators. Echoing this sentiment, VidCon Vice President Sarah Tortoreti noted that the goal is to equip all attendees with the tools to navigate digital life with “greater balance, mindfulness, and intention.” As the event approaches, tickets remain available on the official VidCon website, signaling a renewed commitment to shaping a healthier future for the internet generation.
