Ukrainian authorities have issued a stark warning regarding a sophisticated and coordinated disinformation campaign designed to destabilize the nation’s security apparatus. According to the Center for Combating Disinformation (CCD), hostile actors are actively working to erode public trust in the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense. This latest wave of psychological warfare relies on the fabrication of internal leadership crises, specifically targeting the professional standing of key intelligence officials through the invention of scandalous, meritless narratives intended to weaken the credibility of Ukraine’s defense infrastructure.

The strategic thrust of this campaign involves a malicious attempt to manufacture a “personnel crisis” within the GUR. Russian-linked sources have been caught disseminating falsehoods regarding the supposed dismissal of a deputy head of military intelligence. These fabricated reports have gone so far as to link the imaginary firing to an unsubstantiated “assassination attempt” against a Ukrainian businessman located abroad. The CCD has explicitly debunked these claims as entirely inaccurate, characterizing them as a calculated manipulation of information designed to create the illusion of internal chaos where none exists.

The infrastructure behind this operation reveals a highly organized effort to penetrate the Ukrainian information environment. The CCD notes that the disinformation originated from suspicious platforms already blacklisted in Ukraine due to their history of malign activities and hostile psychological operations. Once launched, these materials were amplified by a network of fake social media profiles, bot accounts, and Telegram channels clearly aligned with foreign interests. The campaign even utilized artificial engagement tactics to boost the reach of these posts, attempting to insert the manufactured narrative into the mainstream Ukrainian news stream.

These efforts are not isolated incidents but rather part of a broader, systemic assault on Ukraine’s military leadership. The CCD has identified a concerted information attack specifically targeting the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General Mykhailo D. Drapatyi. Utilizing platforms such as Facebook and Threads, adversaries have been flooding the digital space with unverified rumors, misrepresented facts, and outright fabrications. These materials are tailored to provoke suspicion, stir discord within the security forces, and deepen rifts between the military leadership and the Ukrainian public.

The primary objective of these ongoing campaigns is to sow confusion and distort the citizenry’s understanding of the conflict. By inventing internal conflicts and spreading fallacious stories regarding staffing reshuffles, the enemy aims to demoralize the public and undermine the perceived stability of Ukraine’s security agencies. The CCD emphasizes that these tactics are a hallmark of modern hybrid warfare, where the subversion of internal discourse is viewed as just as vital as territorial aggression. By destabilizing the nation’s confidence in its Intelligence Directorate and senior military brass, the enemy hopes to paralyze effective decision-making.

In response to these persistent threats, the Center for Combating Disinformation is urging citizens and media outlets to exercise extreme vigilance. They emphasize that the rapid spread of sensationalist news often masks a deeper, malicious agenda intended to weaken national resilience. As the conflict continues, the importance of cross-referencing information with official sources has never been more critical. The CCD concludes that by refusing to share unverified rumors and by relying on institutional transparency, Ukrainians can defend their information space against these persistent attempts to manufacture division and discord.
