By embedding direct military training into the curricula, the Russian state is transforming the pursuit of higher learning into a conveyor belt for military manpower, signaling a complete shift in the purpose of the nation’s academic environment.
The latest escalation in this strategy involves the mandatory implementation of a specialized basic course focused on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems. Starting September 1, 2026, this program will become compulsory across all transportation universities within the country. The scale of this initiative is extensive, encompassing 19 specialized universities and 86 associated branches nationwide. By formalizing this training, the Russian government is ensuring that a significant portion of its youth is not only exposed to, but proficient in, the technologies currently driving the tactical landscape of the conflict against Ukraine.
Estimates suggest that this curriculum will affect at least 150,000 university students directly, with that
