DICT Launches Preemptive Strike Against Disinformation and Deepfakes Ahead of 2025 Midterm Elections
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is taking proactive measures to combat the spread of disinformation, misinformation, and deepfakes in the lead-up to the 2025 midterm elections in the Philippines. Secretary Ivan Uy announced the deployment of specialized teams tasked with monitoring online platforms and social media sites for potentially misleading content. These teams will collaborate with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to either remove deceptive information or issue public warnings about its existence. This initiative underscores the government’s recognition of the increasing threat posed by manipulated media and false narratives in the digital age, particularly during election cycles.
Uy stressed the importance of public vigilance in the fight against online disinformation.
