AI chatbots, including ChatGPT and Grok, erroneously identified the photos as originating from the 2021 Afghanistan evacuation, demonstrating the potential for even advanced technologies to spread inaccuracies.
President Trump himself contributed to the spread of misinformation, prematurely commending the National Guard for their work in Los Angeles even before their arrival in the city. His Truth Social post, thanking the National Guard for a "job well done" following two days of unrest, predated their actual deployment by several hours, according to news reports and a spokesperson for Governor Newsom’s office. This discrepancy highlighted the disconnect between the President’s pronouncements and the reality on the ground.
