Strengthening Information Integrity: Moldova and UNESCO Address Rising Disinformation Challenges
In a strategic effort to fortify the resilience of the Moldovan media landscape, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Corina Călugăr, convened a high-level meeting in Chișinău with UNESCO representatives Julia Melotti and Mehdi Benshelah. The primary agenda centered on the ongoing implementation and progress of the collaborative project titled “Protecting Information Integrity to Prevent Conflicts in Moldova.” This initiative serves as a crucial pillar in the country’s broader strategy to safeguard its digital and journalistic spheres from regional instability.
During the discussion, Secretary of State Călugăr underscored the critical importance of the initiative, identifying it as a timely response to an increasingly hostile information environment. She highlighted that the Republic of Moldova has faced an unprecedented escalation in sophisticated disinformation campaigns, particularly exacerbated by the ongoing war in neighboring Ukraine.
