The situation in Ceuta reached a critical peak last week, with approximately 72,000 people crossing into the territory, many of whom arrived by swimming. Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska reported that while the death toll from the dangerous crossing has reached 75, roughly 70,000 individuals have since been returned to Morocco. These figures highlight the immense logistical and humanitarian strain placed on the Spanish border authorities, who were widely praised during the conference for their swift and effective response in managing the sudden influx.
