As Polish authorities worked to secure the site and investigate the object, which landed in a rural area between the villages of Tarnawa-Kolonia and Tokary, Russian media outlets immediately began disseminating unverified claims. The Polish military highlighted that these propaganda efforts were aimed at exploiting the initial confusion surrounding the incident to push narratives that diverged significantly from the eventual findings.
The disinformation strategy, which the Polish military observed peaking between 4:00 and 9:00 a.m. on the day of the crash, focused on several specific themes intended to weaken national morale. According to the General Staff, Russian channels aggressively promoted the idea that the object was of Ukrainian origin, specifically attempting to link the incident to the presence of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Lublin.
