The community of Twin Falls, Idaho, is reeling following a tragic mass shooting at a local In-N-Out Burger this past Saturday afternoon. Among the victims fighting for their lives is Terry Dudley, a long-time manager at North Star Taxi. Dudley was charging his vehicle at a Tesla station outside the restaurant when the gunfire erupted. His son, Micheal Dudley, describes the harrowing experience of rushing to the hospital after learning his father had been shot in the back, an injury that caused bullet fragmentation and severe internal damage, including a partially collapsed lung.

The gravity of Terry’s condition necessitated his transfer to a Boise hospital, where he has remained under heavy sedation to stabilize his health. Despite the severity of the trauma, family members are optimistic about his recovery. Micheal describes his father as a well-known and deeply integrated figure in the Twin Falls community, noting that while Terry characterizes himself as reserved, his widespread connections prove otherwise. The Dudley family is currently rallying around him, bolstered by the support of friends and concerned neighbors who are closely tracking his progress.

The scene at the In-N-Out was described as absolute chaos by those present. Lindsay Tanguy, a close family friend, arrived at the location shortly after the shots were fired, alerted by a call from Terry’s coworker, James Palmer. Upon her arrival, she witnessed a harrowing tableau: police were tending to an employee on the ground, while Terry remained conscious in his vehicle. Tanguy assisted at the scene, describing the logistical difficulties caused by the gridlock and the intense heat of the pavement, which forced bystanders to use car mats to provide comfort to the wounded as they awaited emergency transport.

As the physical recovery process begins, the Dudley family has found themselves battling an unexpected secondary trauma: the rapid spread of dangerous misinformation on social media. Micheal Dudley expressed immense frustration over the circulation of inaccurate reports, most notably the premature publication of an obituary for his father while he was still alive and receiving life-saving care. This digital rumor mill forced the family to spend precious energy correcting false claims rather than focusing entirely on their loved one’s recovery, adding an unnecessary layer of anguish to an already devastating situation.

The community’s response to the misinformation has been a reminder of the toxic nature of unchecked online reporting. Tanguy emphasized that social media has “twisted” the reality of the tragedy, creating unnecessary suffering for those directly impacted. Both she and Micheal have urged the public to exercise patience and restraint, requesting that people wait for official updates rather than participating in the speculation that has plagued the aftermath of the shooting. They emphasized that the weight of the stress is already overwhelming for those involved and that the spread of falsehoods complicates the healing process.

Despite the digital noise, the family has been deeply moved by the genuine outpouring of local support in Twin Falls. Neighbors and friends have reached out to offer assistance, and concrete efforts to support the Dudley family are already underway. A GoFundMe page has been established to help with medical expenses, and local supporters are organizing a dart tournament to further assist the family. As the community waits for more information from investigators, the focus remains on Terry’s recovery and the resilience of a town attempting to navigate the aftermath of a senseless act of violence.
