Saudi Arabia’s Small Businesses Embrace Digital Transformation: A GoDaddy 2025 Global Entrepreneurship Survey Analysis

The digital revolution is reshaping the small business landscape in Saudi Arabia, with a significant shift towards online operations. According to the GoDaddy 2025 Global Entrepreneurship Survey, half of the Kingdom’s small businesses now primarily conduct their business online, leveraging websites, online marketplaces, and social media platforms to reach customers and drive sales. This represents a clear departure from traditional brick-and-mortar models as entrepreneurs increasingly embrace digital channels to stay competitive and thrive in the evolving market.

While a portion of small businesses (30%) still primarily operate from physical locations, a growing number are adopting digital-first strategies. Approximately one-third (30%) of businesses now operate primarily through their own websites, and another 22% rely mainly on social media platforms. This trend is reflected in sales channels as well, with 31% utilizing online stores or marketplaces and 41% selling directly through social media, compared to 24% conducting sales in person. This blended approach, combining physical and digital strategies, showcases the adaptability of Saudi entrepreneurs in catering to customer preferences across various touchpoints.

Social media has emerged as a critical tool for small businesses in Saudi Arabia, playing a pivotal role in their operational strategies and growth trajectory. Nearly 94% of entrepreneurs recognize the significance of social media for their sales strategies, with 68% emphasizing its crucial role. Moreover, social media platforms have become the primary source of information for learning about business management, with 74% of respondents turning to these platforms for insights, surpassing traditional resources like books and blogs (35%) and even AI tools like ChatGPT (47%). This reliance highlights the power of social media in providing accessible and up-to-date information for aspiring and established entrepreneurs.

Despite the undeniable benefits, social media presents its own set of challenges for small businesses. Content creation is a major hurdle, with 34% of entrepreneurs struggling to generate engaging content and 32% lacking the time for consistent posting. Even when content is published, converting social media engagement into tangible sales remains a persistent difficulty, with 51% struggling to convert followers into customers and 52% facing challenges in reaching their target audience. These challenges underscore the need for more effective strategies and support systems to help businesses navigate the complexities of social media marketing.

As Saudi entrepreneurs increasingly embrace digital platforms, the demand for streamlined tools and support services is growing. Over half (52%) of respondents express the need for better targeting capabilities to reach their desired audience, and nearly half (48%) seek simpler content creation and posting tools. This highlights the demand for practical, time-saving solutions that can enhance their digital marketing efforts. Artificial intelligence (AI) is beginning to play a role in addressing these needs, particularly among proactive business owners. Those already utilizing AI express a greater desire for deeper insights into their performance (49% vs. 44% of non-AI users) and easier content creation tools (50% vs. 43% of non-AI users). This suggests that small businesses are not only experimenting with AI, but actively seeking smart, targeted support that can optimize their time and deliver tangible results.

The ongoing digital transformation of small businesses in Saudi Arabia presents both opportunities and challenges. The need for effective tools and support mechanisms is crucial for success in this evolving landscape. GoDaddy’s commitment to providing user-friendly solutions, such as Show in Bio, GoDaddy Studio, and GoDaddy Airo®, aims to empower entrepreneurs by simplifying digital marketing processes and converting online engagement into tangible business outcomes. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, access to these resources and support networks will be vital for the sustained growth and prosperity of small businesses in the Kingdom.
