Türkiye Rejects Claims of Radar Data Sharing with Israel, Underscoring Commitment to NATO and National Security

Ankara, Türkiye – The Republic of Türkiye has categorically denied allegations of sharing radar data from its Kurecik Radar Base with Israel, issuing a strong statement via its Directorate of Communications. The statement emphasized the base’s crucial role in protecting Türkiye’s national security and strategic interests, primarily serving the collective defense of NATO allies. Data collected at the facility is shared exclusively with NATO member states, strictly adhering to established alliance protocols. The Directorate unequivocally stated that no data is shared with non-NATO countries, specifically naming Israel. The government condemned the claims as either based on misinformation or part of a deliberate disinformation campaign designed to mislead the public.

The Directorate highlighted the legal ramifications of spreading false information pertaining to national security, citing Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code, which criminalizes such actions. This firm stance underscores the sensitivity surrounding national security matters and the government’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of its defense infrastructure. The statement serves as a clear warning against disseminating unsubstantiated claims that could compromise national security interests.

Türkiye’s position on Israel’s regional activities was also reiterated, with the Directorate reaffirming Türkiye’s opposition to actions it considers destabilizing in the Middle East. This long-standing stance is consistently conveyed within NATO, where Türkiye actively opposes Israel’s involvement in alliance exercises. This consistent opposition reflects Türkiye’s broader foreign policy concerns regarding regional stability and its critical perspective on Israel’s role in regional conflicts.

The Kurecik Radar Base, a key component of NATO’s ballistic missile defense system, has been the subject of speculation and controversy since its establishment. Its strategic location makes it a vital asset for monitoring potential threats emanating from the Middle East. The radar base contributes to the early warning capabilities of the alliance, enhancing the collective defense posture of NATO members. The controversy surrounding the base reflects the complex geopolitical landscape of the region and the delicate balance Türkiye maintains in its relations with various international actors.

The Directorate of Communications’ statement further emphasizes Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to national and regional security. This commitment is demonstrated through its active participation in NATO and its investments in defense capabilities. Türkiye plays a significant role in regional security discussions and contributes to maintaining stability within the alliance framework. The statement serves as a reassurance of Türkiye’s dedication to fulfilling its responsibilities as a NATO member and upholding its national security priorities.

The allegations of data sharing with Israel come at a time of heightened regional tensions and increased scrutiny of defense partnerships. The Turkish government’s swift and decisive response underscores the importance it places on maintaining transparency and countering misinformation. By addressing these allegations directly and reiterating its commitment to NATO principles, Türkiye aims to reinforce trust among its allies and reaffirm its dedication to regional security. The statement signals the Turkish government’s resolve in protecting its national interests and upholding its commitment to NATO’s collective defense mission.
