Pakistani Claims Characterized by Misinformation and Propaganda: Indian Foreign Secretary

India Rejects Pakistani "Tissue of Lies" Amidst Escalating Cross-Border Tensions

New Delhi, May 10, 2025 – Tensions between India and Pakistan reached a fever pitch today as both nations engaged in cross-border shelling and retaliatory strikes. In a special press briefing held in New Delhi, India vehemently denied Pakistani allegations of targeting Pakistani infrastructure and civilian populations, labeling them a "tissue of lies." The briefing, led by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, alongside Wing Commander Vyomika Singh of the Indian Air Force and Colonel Sofiya Qureshi of the Indian Army, aimed to counter the misinformation campaign launched by Pakistan.

Misri categorically refuted Pakistani claims that India had attacked critical infrastructure, power systems, and cyber networks, asserting they were "completely false." He urged the public to disregard the propaganda emanating from Pakistan and emphasized India’s commitment to protecting its citizens. The Foreign Secretary highlighted Pakistan’s persistent targeting of civilian infrastructure and populations, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, and its attempts to incite communal discord within India.

The briefing followed a day of intense cross-border shelling by Pakistan, resulting in the death of Additional District Development Magistrate Raj Kumar Thapa in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, and causing widespread damage to property and civilian areas in Firozpur and Jalandhar. India swiftly retaliated, launching strikes against multiple locations within Pakistan, including at least four airbases. Intermittent firing continued along the Line of Control (LoC) throughout the day.

The Indian officials presented evidence to counter Pakistan’s claims. Wing Commander Singh showcased evidence demonstrating normalcy at key Indian military installations, including Sirsa and Suratgarh, directly contradicting Pakistan’s assertions of successful strikes. Colonel Qureshi detailed the measures taken by the Indian military to respond to Pakistani aggression and safeguard civilian populations along the border.

Foreign Secretary Misri also addressed the "ludicrous" claim that Indian missiles had struck Afghanistan, dismissing it as a "frivolous allegation." He underscored that the Afghan people are well aware of which country has historically targeted their civilian population and infrastructure. Misri characterized the situation as "evolving," indicating the potential for further escalations.

The press conference served as a platform for India to robustly counter Pakistan’s narrative and reassure the international community of its commitment to peace and stability in the region. India’s firm stance against what it perceives as Pakistani disinformation underscores the deep mistrust and volatile nature of the relationship between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The international community watches with concern as tensions continue to escalate, fearing a further deterioration of the security situation in South Asia.

The escalating conflict has raised concerns about the potential for further military action and the humanitarian consequences for civilians caught in the crossfire. International observers have called for restraint from both sides and urged a return to dialogue to de-escalate the situation.

Misri reiterated India’s resolve to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity while emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region. He underscored that India’s actions are purely defensive in nature and aimed at protecting its citizens from Pakistani aggression. The briefing served as a clear message to Pakistan and the international community that India will not tolerate any infringement upon its sovereignty and will respond decisively to any provocations.

The escalating tensions between India and Pakistan underscore the fragility of peace in the region and the urgent need for a diplomatic solution to prevent further bloodshed. Both countries possess nuclear weapons, adding a dangerous dimension to the conflict. The international community must engage actively with both sides to promote dialogue and de-escalation, preventing the situation from spiraling into a full-blown war with catastrophic consequences.
