Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Addresses Emerging Security Threats and Lauds Police Force

UDHAMPUR, JAMMU AND KASHMIR – In a significant address at the Passing Out Parade of probationer Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) at the Police Academy in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha highlighted the evolving security challenges facing the region and the nation. He emphasized the growing threats posed by narco-terrorism, the weaponization of social media, and disinformation campaigns, urging young police officers to embrace innovative tools and strategies to combat these menaces effectively.

Sinha congratulated the 61 graduating officers, entrusting them with the crucial responsibility of upholding internal security, combating terrorism, and ensuring the safety and security of the people. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the brave hearts of the J&K Police and other security forces who have laid down their lives in service to the nation. The Lieutenant Governor commended the J&K Police for their significant role in maintaining internal security, particularly under challenging circumstances, and reaffirmed the commitment to a terror-free and fear-free Jammu and Kashmir.

The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the importance of a "Whole of Government Approach" in dismantling the ecosystem of terrorism and separatism, highlighting the improved coordination between the police and other security agencies. He also stressed the need for leveraging modern technology, such as Artificial Intelligence, to counter emerging threats like disinformation and deep fakes. He urged the police force to adopt a proactive approach, shifting from reactive policing to anticipating and analyzing criminal modus operandi. Sinha called for enhanced capabilities in countering disinformation and addressing cross-border cyber threats, recognizing the evolving security landscape shaped by technological advancements.

Sinha underscored the importance of effective investigation and successful prosecution as critical components of successful policing, extending the police force’s responsibility beyond neutralizing terrorists to eliminating divisive elements and those who support terrorism and separatism. He praised the J&K Police’s civil action programs, acknowledging their contribution to community engagement and development.

The Passing Out Parade marked a significant milestone for the 61 graduating DySPs, who embarked on their careers with the mandate to safeguard the region’s security and uphold the rule of law. The Lieutenant Governor’s address served as a call to action, emphasizing the need for vigilance, innovation, and collaboration in addressing the complex security challenges facing Jammu and Kashmir and the nation as a whole.

The event was attended by dignitaries including DGP Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, senior officials from the police and security forces, representatives of the civil administration, and family members of the graduating officers. Garib Dass, Director of the Udhampur Police Academy, provided an overview of the training program and the various activities undertaken by the graduating officers.

The Lieutenant Governor’s address highlighted the evolving nature of security threats, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive and adaptable approach. He commended the J&K Police’s efforts while urging continuous improvement and innovation in tackling challenges. The graduating DySPs were entrusted with the responsibility of upholding security and ensuring peace in the region, embarking on their careers with a clear mandate and a call to serve with dedication and professionalism. The Lieutenant Governor’s presence and his address underscored the significance of the event and the importance placed on the role of the police force in maintaining peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir.
