Kano Deputy Governor’s Office Denounces Fraudulent Grant Scheme Circulating on Social Media

KANO, NIGERIA – The Office of the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has issued a stern warning to the public regarding a fraudulent financial grant scheme circulating on social media platforms. The scheme, which falsely claims to be offering financial assistance on behalf of the Deputy Governor, has been denounced as a deceptive tactic employed by unscrupulous individuals seeking to exploit unsuspecting citizens.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, categorically refuted any involvement of the Deputy Governor, his aides, or his family members in the purported grant program. Shuaibu emphasized that the information being disseminated is entirely fabricated and designed to mislead the public. The statement unequivocally clarified that neither the Deputy Governor nor anyone associated with his office has authorized or sanctioned such a scheme.

The Deputy Governor’s office expressed grave concern over the potential harm this fraudulent activity could inflict on unsuspecting individuals. The statement warned that circulating false information, especially through digital channels, constitutes a serious offense punishable under cybercrime laws. Shuaibu reiterated the office’s commitment to upholding the law and ensuring that those responsible for perpetrating this scam are brought to justice. He urged members of the public to exercise caution and vigilance, advising them to refrain from engaging with or sharing the fraudulent messages.

The statement emphasized the importance of relying solely on official communication channels for verified information emanating from the Deputy Governor’s office. It assured the public that any official announcements regarding government programs or initiatives would be disseminated through established and recognized platforms. This commitment to transparency aims to prevent the spread of misinformation and protect citizens from falling prey to fraudulent schemes.

The Deputy Governor’s office has also called upon members of the public to play an active role in combating the spread of this fraudulent scheme. Individuals are encouraged to report any instances of encountering the misleading messages or any suspicious activity related to the scheme to the appropriate law enforcement authorities. This collaborative effort between the government and the public is crucial in curbing the proliferation of online scams and safeguarding the community from financial exploitation.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the growing prevalence of online scams and the importance of exercising caution when encountering unsolicited offers of financial assistance. The Deputy Governor’s office remains committed to protecting the public from such schemes and urges all citizens to remain vigilant and informed. By working together, the authorities and the public can create a safer online environment and prevent individuals from falling victim to these deceptive practices. The office reiterates its commitment to transparency and accountability, ensuring that official information is readily accessible to the public through verified channels.
