India Condemns Pakistan’s Dissemination of Misinformation Regarding Kashmir at UNSC

India Condemns Pakistan’s Terrorism and Misinformation at UN Security Council

United Nations Headquarters – In a forceful rebuke at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), India’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, denounced Pakistan for its persistent support of terrorism and its dissemination of misinformation regarding the status of Jammu and Kashmir. Harish’s statement came during an open debate on multilateralism and global governance reform, where he directly addressed Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s attempts to raise the Kashmir issue. The Indian envoy categorically rejected Pakistan’s claims, reiterating that Jammu and Kashmir is, and will always remain, an integral part of India, while highlighting Pakistan’s illegal occupation of portions of the region.

Ambassador Harish criticized Pakistan’s persistent campaigns of misinformation and disinformation, emphasizing that such tactics cannot alter the realities on the ground. He pointed to the successful elections held in Jammu and Kashmir in the previous year, where a substantial voter turnout demonstrated the democratic will of the people. This, he argued, stands in stark contrast to the political landscape in Pakistan. He underscored the vibrancy and strength of democracy in Jammu and Kashmir, implicitly challenging Pakistan’s own democratic credentials.

Furthermore, Ambassador Harish labeled Pakistan as a "global epicentre of terrorism," harboring over 20 UN-designated terrorist entities and providing state support for cross-border terrorism. He condemned the irony of Pakistan presenting itself as a champion in the fight against terrorism while simultaneously sheltering and supporting terrorist organizations. He cited India’s experience as a victim of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, naming groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Harkat-ul-Mujahidin as examples of the threat emanating from Pakistan.

India’s firm stance against Pakistan’s actions at the UNSC reflects its ongoing efforts to counter Islamabad’s narrative on Kashmir and to expose its support for terrorism on the global stage. The strong words from Ambassador Harish highlight the deep divide between the two nations and the continued tension surrounding the Kashmir issue. The international community is increasingly aware of the discrepancies between Pakistan’s rhetoric and its actions, particularly regarding its commitment to combating terrorism.

The exchange at the UNSC underscores the challenges facing multilateral efforts to address global issues when member states engage in misinformation and support for terrorism. India’s call for accountability and transparency from Pakistan serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding international norms and principles in the pursuit of peace and security. The international community’s response to Pakistan’s actions will be crucial in determining the effectiveness of multilateral mechanisms in addressing these critical challenges.

The ongoing dispute between India and Pakistan over Kashmir remains a significant point of contention in South Asia. India’s assertion of Jammu and Kashmir’s integral status and its accusations against Pakistan for supporting terrorism are at the heart of this complex issue. The international community continues to urge both nations to engage in dialogue and find a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The recent exchange at the UNSC highlights the urgency of addressing this longstanding dispute and the need for a concerted international effort to promote stability and security in the region. Further escalating tensions will only exacerbate the existing challenges and hinder progress toward a lasting solution. Both India and Pakistan must prioritize diplomatic engagement and work towards de-escalation to create an environment conducive to meaningful dialogue and peaceful resolution.
