India’s All-Party Delegation Counters Disinformation, Underscores Unity Against Terrorism in Middle East Visit
An influential all-party delegation from India, led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Baijayant Panda, recently concluded a significant diplomatic mission to several Middle Eastern countries, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Algeria. The delegation’s primary objective was to counter the spread of misinformation regarding India’s stance on terrorism, particularly in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, and to reinforce India’s unwavering commitment to combating cross-border terrorism. The delegation also sought to strengthen bilateral ties with these key Gulf nations, building upon the foundation laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s previous diplomatic engagements.
The delegation comprised a diverse representation of India’s political landscape, including prominent figures such as former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Democratic Progressive Azad Party Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad, BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey and Phangnon Konyak, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) MP Neiphiu Rio, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MP Asaduddin Owaisi, nominated MP Satnam Singh Sandhu, and former Foreign Secretary and Ambassador Harsh Shringla. This cross-party composition underscored the unified message that India presents on the global stage regarding its zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism.
During the delegation’s visit to Kuwait, meaningful discussions were held with key stakeholders, including Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister and other high-ranking officials. These meetings provided a platform to directly address misinformation propagated by Pakistan regarding India’s internal affairs and its counter-terrorism efforts. Ghulam Nabi Azad, a seasoned political leader, pointedly addressed Pakistan’s persistent dissemination of false narratives, emphasizing that these tactics are ingrained in their modus operandi. He highlighted the importance of the delegation’s visit in dispelling these falsehoods and presenting the reality of India’s pluralistic society, where diverse communities coexist peacefully.
Baijayant Panda emphasized the warm and historic relationship between India and Kuwait, which has been further bolstered by Prime Minister Modi’s proactive foreign policy initiatives. He underscored the respect accorded to the Indian diaspora residing in Kuwait, recognizing their contributions to both nations. Panda also delivered a strong message to Pakistan, reiterating India’s resolve to no longer remain silent in the face of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. He asserted that India has explored various avenues to address this issue, including diplomatic efforts and treaties, but will not yield to nuclear blackmail. He unequivocally demanded that Pakistan cease its support for terrorist activities originating within its borders and end the spread of misinformation.
The all-party delegation’s visit to Kuwait included a visit to the iconic Kuwait Towers, a symbol of Kuwait’s modernization and development. This visit provided a cultural backdrop to the important political discussions taking place, highlighting the multifaceted nature of the relationship between India and Kuwait.
Beyond Kuwait, the delegation’s broader Middle East tour, with separate groups led by individual MPs, serves as a strategic initiative to engage with international partners and counter the global spread of misinformation regarding India’s stance on terrorism. The visit aims to inform international audiences about India’s comprehensive approach to combating terrorism, including its response to the Pahalgam attack and its overall strategy to address cross-border terrorism. The multi-party nature of the delegation powerfully conveys India’s united front against terrorism, irrespective of domestic political differences. This sends a strong signal to the international community that India is unwavering in its commitment to eradicating terrorism and safeguarding its national security. The delegation’s visit is a significant step in strengthening international cooperation and fostering a better understanding of India’s perspective on this critical global issue. It also reaffirms India’s proactive diplomatic approach in building stronger relationships with key partners in the Middle East.
