St. Charles Educator Unions Denounce Misleading Election Flyers, Urge Community to Seek Accurate Information
ST. CHARLES, IL – A coalition of St. Charles education unions has issued a public statement denouncing misleading election flyers circulating within the community. These flyers, paid for by the People of Kane County, a political action committee associated with the fringe group Kane County Speaks, misrepresent the unions’ endorsements in the upcoming school board election. The flyers list only one of the four candidates officially recommended by the St. Charles Education Association (SCEA), St. Charles Educational Support Professionals (SCESP), and St. Charles Transportation and Maintenance (SCT&M).
The unions emphasized that their official endorsements include Kate Bell, Heidi Fairgrieve, Jenna Hancock, and Kimberly Rich. They stressed the importance of accurate information in the electoral process and expressed concern that disinformation could distract from critical issues facing the school district. SCEA President Jennifer Adam stated, “The spread of disinformation in this election undermines the integrity of the electoral process and distracts from the real issues at stake: the future of our schools and the well-being of our students."
The coalition, representing over 1,400 teachers, support staff, maintenance workers, and bus drivers serving more than 11,500 students across 15 schools, underscored the rigorous and transparent process through which they select candidates for endorsement. Their recommendations, they explained, are based on candidates’ commitment to student success, responsible financial management, and strong partnerships with families and staff. Adam further emphasized the dedication of their members to the success of St. Charles students and the seriousness with which they approach their responsibility to recommend candidates who align with their shared vision for a thriving school district.
The unions urged community members to verify endorsements through trusted sources and dismiss any information suggesting they support candidates other than those officially listed. They stressed that implications of broader support are false, misleading, and detrimental to the integrity of the election. The coalition encourages community members to seek accurate information and engage in respectful, fact-based discussions about the future of District 303.
The misleading flyers have raised concerns about the role of outside groups in local elections and the spread of disinformation. The People of Kane County’s association with Kane County Speaks, a group known for its controversial stances, adds another layer of complexity to the situation. This incident highlights the need for voters to be vigilant in verifying information and seeking out endorsements directly from the organizations involved.
The St. Charles educator unions’ proactive response in addressing the misleading flyers demonstrates their commitment to transparency and ensuring that the community has access to accurate information. They have provided a link to their website where voters can find details about the endorsed candidates and their platforms. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of informed civic engagement and the critical role that educators play in advocating for the best interests of their students and the community. The unions remain committed to working with families and the community to ensure a strong and vibrant future for St. Charles schools.
