Three separate cases have been registered against individuals and groups accused of disseminating misinformation with the intent to incite unrest and disrupt communal harmony. The case has been registered at Konaje police station under Sections 192, 353(1), and 353(2) of the BNS (presumably referring to a local law or ordinance).
A second case, registered at Barke police station under Section 353(2) of the BNS, targets an Instagram account, "beary-royal-nawab." This account allegedly uploaded fabricated information related to the Kudupu incident, intentionally misleading the public and potentially contributing to further unrest. The police are actively investigating this case and pursuing legal action against those responsible.
The third case, filed at Kankanady Town police station under Section 353(1)(b) of the BNS, pertains to the dissemination of fake and inflammatory content within the WhatsApp group "Maikallo Beary." Zakir Hussain, a resident of Munnur village in Ullal taluk, has been identified as the individual responsible for spreading this incendiary material, which aimed to incite unrest within Mangaluru.
Commissioner Agrawal reiterated the Mangaluru City police’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and harmony. He firmly stated that strict legal action will be taken against anyone engaging in the spread of misinformation or attempting to disrupt public order through social media. The police department is actively monitoring online activity and will continue to investigate and prosecute those who violate the law.
