Athens Hosts International Media Edukathon to Tackle AI’s Impact on Information
ATHENS, GREECE – From September 3rd to 5th, 2025, the ancient city of Athens will become a hub for innovation and collaboration as it hosts the TADAM Media Edukathon. This intensive two-and-a-half-day event will bring together 70 participants from 18 countries, representing a diverse array of media educators, researchers, and journalists. Their collective mission: to develop practical tools and resources that empower individuals to navigate the rapidly evolving information landscape shaped by artificial intelligence. The Edukathon is a key initiative of the TADAM project (Tools & Awareness about Disinformation, Algorithm and Media), funded by the Creative Europe programme. The project aims to address the challenges, identify best practices, and develop educational resources related to the intersection of AI and media.
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), a prominent partner in the TADAM project, will be actively involved in the Edukathon, alongside its affiliates, the French Syndicat National des Journalistes (SNJ) and the Federación de Asociación de Periodistas de España (FAPE). This collaborative effort underscores the global recognition of the need for media literacy in the age of AI. The Edukathon will focus on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on how we access, process, and share information. Participants will delve into the opportunities and challenges presented by AI, examining its influence on news dissemination, content creation, and the very fabric of truth and misinformation in the digital sphere.
The heart of the Edukathon lies in its interactive and collaborative approach. Participants will engage in dynamic brainstorming sessions and co-creation workshops, leveraging their diverse expertise to develop innovative tools and resources. These tools will be designed to equip individuals with the critical thinking skills and media literacy competencies necessary to effectively evaluate and interpret information in an environment increasingly influenced by algorithms and AI-generated content. The Edukathon aims to foster a spirit of innovation, encouraging participants to explore creative solutions and devise practical strategies for navigating the complexities of the AI-driven information landscape.
The TADAM Media Edukathon represents a crucial step in addressing the pressing need for enhanced media literacy in the face of AI’s growing influence. By bringing together leading experts from across the globe, the event aims to generate tangible outcomes that can empower individuals to become more discerning consumers and creators of information. The tools and resources developed during the Edukathon will be valuable assets for educators, journalists, and the public alike, contributing to a more informed and resilient information ecosystem. The emphasis on practicality and user-friendliness ensures that the outcomes of the Edukathon will have a direct and positive impact on individuals’ ability to navigate the digital world responsibly.
The results of the TADAM Media Edukathon will be disseminated widely through the project’s online platform, scheduled for publication by the end of 2025. This platform will serve as a central repository for the tools, resources, and insights generated during the event, making them accessible to a global audience. This commitment to open access reflects the project’s dedication to fostering widespread media literacy and empowering individuals to critically engage with information in the digital age. The online platform will also function as a hub for ongoing discussion and collaboration, facilitating the continued development and refinement of the resources created during the Edukathon.
The TADAM project has already demonstrated a strong commitment to promoting media literacy through a series of initiatives across Europe. Prior to the Athens Edukathon, the project organized seminars, workshops, and webinars in Belgium, France, Italy, Greece, Finland, Montenegro, Macedonia, and other European countries. These events have served as valuable platforms for engaging with stakeholders, sharing best practices, and fostering a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between AI and media. The TADAM project’s pan-European approach underscores the importance of international collaboration in addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by AI in the information landscape. The Edukathon in Athens marks a significant milestone in the project’s ongoing efforts to empower individuals and build a more resilient and informed society in the digital age.
