Experts agree that the government’s delayed and inadequate response to the disinformation campaign contributed significantly to the escalation of the crisis. This allowed the opposition to tap into existing public anxieties about increased taxation under the Lula administration, particularly in light of the country’s burgeoning public debt and the real’s devaluation against the dollar.
