Beef Checkoff Fuels Industry Growth, Combats Misinformation, and Drives Economic Impact

The beef industry is experiencing a period of robust growth, fueled by strong consumer demand and strategic investments through the beef checkoff program. A recent study conducted by the Beef Board highlights the significant positive impact of these checkoff dollars, extending far beyond the farm gate. Greg Hanes, CEO of the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, emphasized the checkoff’s contribution to the economy, citing the creation of nearly 50,000 jobs annually. Hanes highlighted the importance of research in gauging consumer sentiment and identifying "hot button" issues. Exports to China witnessed a remarkable 35% surge, while exports to the Middle East saw a 5% volume increase and a 13% value increase.

Dan Halstrom, CEO of USMEF, acknowledged the concern surrounding the tariff situation but expressed optimism for the future. While acknowledging the complexity of the ongoing trade negotiations and their potential short-term impact, Halstrom emphasized the long-term goal of navigating these challenges with minimal disruption to the industry’s growth trajectory. The federation remains committed to fostering strong international trade relationships and promoting U.S. beef in key global markets.
