Meta’s Shift in Content Moderation: A Dangerous Game with Disinformation

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has unveiled a significant shift in the company’s content moderation policies, impacting Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. This move, presented as a championing of free speech, raises serious concerns about the spread of misinformation and disinformation across these platforms, posing new challenges for marketers and media agencies, particularly in Canada. The timing of this decision, following closely on the heels of high-profile legal battles concerning content moderation, privacy, and antitrust issues, suggests a strategic move to appease figures like Donald Trump, who have been critical of Meta’s previous policies.
