PM Kisan Samman Nidhi: Anticipation Builds for 20th Installment Amidst Misinformation Concerns
Over 9.8 crore farmers across India are eagerly anticipating the release of the 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM Kisan), a flagship scheme providing crucial financial assistance to the nation’s agricultural backbone. The scheme, launched in 2019, offers eligible farmers an annual sum of Rs 6,000, disbursed in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 every four months. However, the expected June disbursement has been delayed, leading to mounting anticipation and concerns regarding misinformation circulating on social media.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has stepped forward to address these concerns, urging farmers to remain vigilant against misleading information and rely solely on official channels for updates. The ministry emphasized the official PM Kisan website (pmkisan.gov.in) and its official X (formerly Twitter) handle (@pmkisanofficial) as the only reliable sources for authentic information. The cautionary advisory comes in response to the spread of spurious claims and links on social media platforms, potentially jeopardizing farmers’ access to the much-needed financial aid.
While the exact date and venue for the 20th installment release remain undisclosed, anticipation is high for an announcement soon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to preside over the disbursement event, as has been customary in previous installments. Farmers are encouraged to regularly monitor the official PM Kisan website for updates regarding the release date. The previous installment, the 19th, was disbursed in February 2025, leading to expectations of the June installment being released sometime in June or early July. The reasons for the delay haven’t been officially stated, adding to the farmers’ anxieties.
To ensure seamless receipt of the upcoming installment, the Ministry of Agriculture has outlined a series of essential steps for farmers. Completion of e-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) is paramount, as it’s mandatory for continued participation in the PM Kisan scheme. Beneficiaries are also advised to link their Aadhaar numbers with their bank accounts to avoid any discrepancies that could lead to rejection of the installment. Accurate bank account details are crucial for smooth transfer of funds, and farmers should verify their IFSC codes and account numbers. Any discrepancies in land records should be promptly addressed, as digital verification of land ownership is a key eligibility criterion. The PM Kisan portal offers farmers the facility to check their beneficiary status by entering their registration number or Aadhaar number. Finally, keeping mobile numbers updated ensures that farmers receive crucial OTPs and notifications related to the scheme.
For those yet to complete the mandatory e-KYC process, the PM Kisan website offers three convenient options: OTP-based e-KYC, biometric e-KYC, and facial authentication. This process is crucial for avoiding any disruption in receiving the PM Kisan benefits. The ministry has reiterated the importance of adhering to these guidelines to ensure timely and hassle-free receipt of the 20th installment.
The PM Kisan scheme, which has become the world’s largest Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) program, plays a vital role in supporting small and marginal farmers across India. It provides much-needed financial support for agricultural inputs, family expenses, and overall livelihood improvement. Eligibility for the scheme is contingent upon being an Indian citizen, owning cultivable land, and falling under the category of small or marginal farmers. Individuals receiving pensions of Rs 10,000 or more per month, income tax filers, and institutional landholders are excluded from the scheme. New applicants can register for the scheme through the PM Kisan portal by providing the required details, including Aadhaar number, and completing the online registration form. For any queries or assistance, dedicated helpline numbers are available for farmers to connect with support staff.
